Edible Garden, GROW YOUR OWN
March 20, 2020
If you are ready to dig into growing your vegetables from seed, you have come to the right place!
Growing from seed gives you a lot of freedom to what varieties you grow. From heirloom to organic, there are many types of veggies that are available in seed form. It’s most cost-friendly than purchasing transplants in late-spring.
Various seeds have specific requirement; always read the packing for exact details and dates to start, planting depth, and how long until they need until being transplanted outside.

Begin to harden off seedlings about ten days before transplanting outside. Seedlings should start their journey to your garden in a shaded area protected from the wind. Mid to late afternoon, seedlings can go into the sunshine for an hour or two (don’t forget to protect them from wind and any animals). Bring seedlings back inside at the end of the day.
Continue with the process for about a week, and then extend their hardening off hours into the night, using the same process.
Keep an eye on your seedlings for any damage, wilting, or climate temperature drops.
All risk of frost must pass, and the soil should be around 18 °C (65 °F) before planting. Dig a hole that’s slightly bigger than the root ball. Fill the soil to the plant’s root line and tamp down firmly with your hands. Water well and watch them grow!
