Assistant Nursery Plant Product Manager

Position Summary
Reporting to the Nursery Plant Product Manager, the Assistant Nursery Plant Product Manager is responsible for the buying cycle of plants for the nursery sales division, as well as providing buying support for the trade and retail locations.

Working with our Nursery Sales staff and Nursery Plant buying team this position will include: recommending quantities, sourcing products, negotiating buying terms, issuing purchase orders, arranging transportation, through to receiving, quality control and claim management process.

Accountabilities
• Analyze sales, margins and other information to maximize sell through and profitability
• Analyze marketplace to ensure pricing is competitive
• Maintain accurate records and reporting
• Identify the ideal vendor(s) for each product group
• Develop positive relationships with current and new suppliers

 

Skills Required
• Strong negotiating and communication skills
• Well developed analytical and Excel spreadsheet skills
• Well organized with good attention to detail is essential
• Adaptable, enjoy working independently to specific and demanding deadlines
• Knowledge of ornamental plants an asset

Nursery Positions
 
Operations Analyst / Purchaser, Contract, 1 year

Position Summary
The Analyst/Purchaser is responsible for the buying cycle of plants for the Container and Glen Williams farm. Working with our Sales and growing staff to recommend quantities; then sourcing, negotiation, purchasing and claims. Once plants arrive you will be working in the field to assess the shipments and support potting/planting crews. Other projects will include productivity improvements, costing and capital purchases.

Accountabilities
• Analyze sales, growing and other information to develop Production plan for the coming year
• Coordinate the internally produced plants and purchase in remainder to meet the plan
• Maintain accurate records and reporting
• Coordinate incoming plants to check for quality and prepare for potting/planting
• Develop positive relationships with current and new suppliers

Skills Required
• Strong negotiating and communication skills
• Well developed analytical and Excel spreadsheet skills
• Well organized with good attention to detail is essential
• Adaptable, enjoy working in a Nursery setting that includes outdoor work
• Knowledge of woody ornamental plants an asset

General Farm Labour

Position Summary

These full time seasonal positions are in Gerogetown Ontario. The positions involve repetitive work which may include pruning, potting, and plant maintenance up to and including early spring.  Must be able to work in a fast paced and physically demanding environment often outside in inclement weather conditions. Will require evening and weekend work, depending on seasonal weather patterns.

Potting Foreperson

Position Summary:

This full time position involves leading and motivating a crew to work efficiently and safely to meet production targets. During spring and summer supervise the potting of close to 1 million plants, then other growing activities throughout the year.

•Problem solving skills - ability to resolve conflicts quickly and effectively

Retail Garden Centre Positions
Scarborough  
Receiver

Position Summary

The duties of this position include inspecting and verifying incoming and outgoing goods against invoices or other documents at the garden centre while safely loading and unloading product from transport vehicles to and from their storage areas.

Accountabilities

This Receiver is responsible for maintaining an internal record-keeping system, recording shipping and receiving variances, rejecting damaged goods, packing and unpacking goods, maintaining the storage facilities to protect product from damage and operating a forklift safely in accordance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act..

Skills Required

The ideal candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills. Holds a valid G class driver’s license with a clean driving abstract. Must be computer proficient with POS experience as an asset. Has experience in shipping/receiving with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23kg) continuously during an 8 hour day and is certified to operate a forklift. This person will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
