Position Summary

This position involves overseeing the purchasing aspects of hardgoods categories (including, but not limited to, garden supplies, tools, water products, seeds and bulbs) and reports directly to the Vice President, Marketing and Purchasing.

Responsibilities include sourcing new and unique products; booking and co-ordinating shipments with suppliers; price negotiations; marketing/advertising programs for product categories, facilitating product pricing, deliveries and quality controll as well as product presentation; pricing and selection in our garden centres and overall vendor relationship development.

Skills Required

The successful candidate will have quality experience in the purchasing and/ or retailing of hardgoods and must be able to work to deadlines in a fast-paced environment.  Strong negotiating skills, analytical skills and strong attention to detail are imperative.  Must be an excellent communicator and an enthusiastic team leader and able to travel to local retailers, international and local trade shows as well as our own locations. Advanced computer skills are essential and POS experience is an assest.

Specific Duties:

• Implement and maintain regulatory programs (ISO 9001:2000based)
• Liaison with government agencies (CFIA, OMAFRA, etc.) on pest issues and import/export protocol
• Facilitate and develop new quality management initiatives
• Design and maintain efficient control procedures, feedback mechanisms and practical, self-managed systems at both operational and managerial levels.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor or Master of Science degree in biology or biochemistry
• Working knowledge of microscopy basics, scientific method, statistics, research, taxonomy
• Understanding of ISO 9001:2000 principles
• Integrated Pest Management experience, pest diagnosis
• Experience in working with insects (entomology) or diseases (pathology) of plants
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.

General computer skills are essential; POS experience is an asset. This position is required to work days, evenings, and weekends as scheduled.

Position Summary

The duties of this position include inspecting and verifying incoming and outgoing goods against invoices or other documents at the garden centre while safely loading and unloading product from transport vehicles to and from their storage areas.

Accountabilities

This Receiver is responsible for maintaining an internal record-keeping system, recording shipping and receiving variances, rejecting damaged goods, packing and unpacking goods, maintaining the storage facilities to protect product from damage and operating a forklift safely in accordance to the Occupational Health and Safety Act..

Skills Required

The ideal candidate has excellent organizational and communication skills. Holds a valid G class driver’s license with a clean driving abstract. Must be computer proficient with POS experience as an asset. Has experience in shipping/receiving with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23kg) continuously during an 8 hour day and is certified to operate a forklift. This person will be required to work evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.

Position Summary

These positions involve the operation of a computerized POS system, record keeping in relation to cash procedures, guest service and custodial tasks as required.

Accountabilities

Cashiers are responsible for ensuring every guest transaction is done with excellent service and cash tills balance in accordance with our POS systems.

Skills Required

Ideal candidates will have experience in guest service, cash handling, have good organizational skills and an enthusiastic approach to guests. POS experience is an asset. These positions will be required to work days, evenings and weekends as scheduled.
 

Position Summary

The duties of this position are to provide a helpful and sales oriented attitude towards the guests. They ensure guests are greeted and provided with a high level of service in different areas of the store and parking lots while assisting other staff with additional duties.

Accountabilities

Guest Service staff are responsible to assist guests or direct them to another staff member who can better service to them. They ensure cleanliness is maintained in all areas of the store. They provide service to all guests by offering carry-out assistance with their purchases, loading or unloading their vehicles.

Skills Required

Ideal candidates will have experience in guest service with the ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23kg) continuously during an 8 hour day. These positions will be required to work days, evenings and weekends as scheduled.
 

Position Summary

The duties of this position include driving in rural and urban areas including downtown Toronto, loading and unloading of product and overall assistance in the garden centre.

Accountabilities

Truck Drivers are responsible for delivering and receiving product in excellent condition, obeying all MTO requirements and keeping organized documentation of all trucking and delivery related information.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate has quality experience in driving in the city with an enthusiastic approach to guests. Holds a G class license with a clean driving abstract. This position is required to work days, evenings, and weekends as scheduled.
 

Position Summary

The duties of this position include creating and hand drawing landscape designs for our guests in the store while selling plant material and providing overall assistance with our any product lines and categories around the store.

Accountabilities

The In-Store Landscape designer’s responsibilities include handling a variety of projects including the design of private gardens, establishing the general landscape requirements with clients, preparing plans and working drawings, setting them out clearly and accurately, including presenting proposals and dealing with client enquiries.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will have 1-2 years of quality experience in landscape design and plant identification. They have excellent communication and negotiating skills and above average creative ability. This position will be required to work days, evenings, weekends and holidays as scheduled.
